He should be a shoo-in

Louis Butler is in the running for a seat on the federal district court.

A way station en route to the Seventh Circuit, perhaps.

More here from Prof. O'Hear.

Butler would be a great choice, and it would be nice to see him back on the bench.

If there's always so much support for promoting him as a consolation prize, wouldn't his best shot at the Seventh Circuit be not getting the District Court seat?

Funny. But I'm not sure "consolation prize" needs be factored into whatever evaluations are performed by commissions, Senators, the President, etc.

belling, predictably, was crying about how disastrous the appointment of butler would be. but, more interestingly, he also commented on the candidates for u.s. attorney and revealed that alex flynn had represented him in some cases. if i remember right, flynn used to work as a public defender. remember belling's "principled" refusal to support any judicial candidate with that background, because such a person does not share his "values?"

That's funny too. Alex is a great guy.
