I'm still trying to figure out if maybe he confused Autism with Down Syndrome, or if he's just that random.

I caught that one too. I wonder if just being in the vicinity of ANYthing will make her an expert...Russian proximity = Foreign Policy/Downs Syndrome = Autism /Oil fields = Energy expertise. Whats next?

Last winter, McCain said “there’s strong evidence” that thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative no longer used in scheduled childhood vaccines, is responsible for an increase in autism in the U.S. He's an idiot. The "strong evidence" consists of anecdotes and quasi-scientific rants in fringe medical journals. The increase in diagnoses comes from less restrictive criteria for diagnosing the disorder. Roughly 2 out of 3 people on the autism spectrum today would have received another diagnosis, or no label at all 20 years ago. It's as if the definition of legally blind was changed from 20/200 vision to 20/150 - we'd have more people calling themselves blind, and greater public awareness, but no epidemic.

You can bet that Palin is oblivious to the points I just made.
