Arabic Numeralgate

Exclusive fauxtrage report
I heard Fox News's Greta Van Susteren and Charles Krauthammer were in a dither because a NASA official acknowledged the Arab world's foundational contributions to mathematics. Told you the president's a Muslim! Anyway this is a good thing because it will keep the wing-nuts busy scouring the Qur'an for physics equations.

Next thing you know, it'll be Moorish architecture and chess.

Actually, I believe the origins of chess were in pre-Islamic India and Persia, so it's not really a contribution from the Arab world.

Persia

You mean Eye-ran!

Yes, Eye-ran. The term "checkmate" comes from the Eye-ranian "Shah-mat" ("death to the king"). Shades of the 1979 Islamic revolution (although the Shah managed to escape his "mat" at that time).
