Wisconsin Democrats go heavy after Alberta Darling

Update: Here's the DPW's complaint against Alberta Darling et al.

Wisconsin State Senator and object of one of next Tuesday's recall elections Alberta Darling has committed multiple felonies, misled the public, and intentionally covered up her crimes, according to State Democratic chairman Mike Tate. Tate said the Democratic Party was submitting complaints containing specific allegations with the district attorneys of Milwaukee and Dane Counties, along with federal investigators in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.

Apparently some of the the allegations arise from revelations contained among the fruits of the liberal advocacy group One Wisconsin Now's June 8 open records request to Darling, which she had been resisting until OWN filed suit in a Dane County court on Tuesday. The records contain correspondence between Darling and the American Federation for Children, a conservative proponent of private voucher schools to whose benefit OWN claims Sen. Darling has been working to tailor legislation.

Should be a fun next few days.

Coincidentally, today also marks the opening of the Wisconsin State Fair.

So we get a fair and a circus.* Woohoo!

* And the hot bats.

  1. From dane101 description of presser, sounds like the DPW had its own FOIA requests and may have different info.

  2. That's correct. However Tate did reference the OWN investigation.

  3. One Wisconsin Now has been doing some great Open Records work. Expect the Walker administration to eliminate open records requests soon.

  5. Stuart Rothenberg seems to think the Democrats have the inside track and credits Sandy Pasch for running a good race and closing on Darling. Money quote from a GOP operative:

The average Republican voters in Wisconsin viewed the passage of the Walker proposals in March as the end of a tough battle, while Democrats viewed it as the beginning.

  8. Don Walker was on the line. It's coming.

  9. Lisa Kaiser was in on the FOIA action, too.

  11. It's about time someone goes medieval on these nihilists. Win or lose, rank-and-file Democrats throughout the state are heartened and ready for more. In the past, prudence and moderation dictated forbearance, but the barrier has been breached by others. They will rue the day.

  12. In the public interest this late public disclosure should be reason to postpone the election until all these matters are cleared or punished.

If found guilty the public should have the right to see if another candidate would run for this office. If innocent, the election should be held as is.

  15. Ooops, there it is....

"State Sen. Alberta Darling said Wednesday that she's being recalled from office because the entire country is focused on Wisconsin politics and their effect on President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.

"This is about the Obama election," said Darling. "Obama cannot win unless he wins Wisconsin. That's why you see all this money in here. That's why you see all the arrows and guns pointed at me. ..."

Grab a box of tissues before reading. Poor, poor Alberta..... *sniffly, sniffles of persecution*

  16. Nearly 7pm and I see nothing in the J-S. Looks like they're giving it as much coverage as Walker's no-bid contract to Michael, Best and Friedrich at $350 an hour.

I know the Sykes company is in the tank for Darling, but if they black this one out....we may have to black them out.

  18. "This is about the Obama election," said Darling. Interesting- that's what Scott Fitzgerald admitted when he explained the anti- collective bargaining and union dues provisions of the budget repair bill.

Don Walker didn't sound terribly impressed with Tate's statement, but I thought he'd throw something down, given the play the J-S gave "Ribgate" (which has apparently come to absolutely nothing).
