Wisconsin judicial activism now

The ballots remain in the custody of [Kathy] Nickolaus ...
That state of affairs needs to be remedied immediately.

I understand it's a formality but the appearance is troubling. I submit that everybody would sleep a whole lot better at night knowing those ballots were instead in the custody of some independent tribunal.

  1. "I have confidence in the Waukesha County clerk," Kennedy told reporters.

    Really?

  2. Seems to me she waived any such presumption long ago.

  3. I see only incompetence so far. It's not like the City of Brookfield hid their numbers.

It tells me there's a great deal of good in openness. If Waukesha County had been posting its town-by-town numbers on its web site, or handing detailed print-outs to the press, this error would've been spotted long before it would've become trouble and confusion.

We have a patchwork of election systems. Clerks are elected and partisan, so even clerks with a history of questions will be reelected because they're supported by the local party.

  4. Yep. Not suggesting impropriety. But you've got to admit, the appearance of these ballots remaining in the custody of this individual, under these circumstances, inspires something other than either confidence or public trust.

Ironically, Waukesha used to post them online until Nickolaus stopped the practice because of another embarassing cluster#@$@.

  6. Why is Kevin Kennedy expressing ANY subjective opinion on the behaviors of this women at all? Totally unnecessary and actually wrong, given what we know she has already done in this and previous situations.

Not impressed by this guy whatsoever.

Because he's implicated by signing off on a lot of her BS procedures.

  8. Isn't this her third screw-up in Waukesha? Let's ignore her incompetence in Madison for the moment.
