So let me get this straight

A famous and apparently widely admired person, the "Purpose Driven Pastor" Rick Warren, who claims to follow and represent The Lord and Saviour on Earth, has to be "pressured" by the media to condemn Uganda's official plans to execute homosexuals.

Because when they asked Pastor Rick Warren about it before, he said oh no, it's simply not appropriate to comment on some other country's internal affairs.

Is that about the size of it?

What's especially ghastly is how much he looks like Jerry Falwell.

  1. I know it's the season of hating Christians for atheist, but I never heard you condemn countries that are killing and prosecuting Christians simply because they're Christians.

It's not Christians that are behind the execution plans and it's very disingenuous for you to make it appear that it is.

  2. Disgraceful. And this clown was invited to speak at the inauguration.

If you say so. I wouldn't know.

I'm certain there is an infinite number of things you've never heard me say.

Yes, they are professing Christians who are behind the execution plans and their revulsion at homosexuality is derived from (or at least affirmed by) what they believe the Bible (the "Word of God") teaches.

My point here, however, was about Rick Warren, who is also a professing Christian, and his ass-covering self-promotion, which doesn't strike me as particularly honoring of Jesus either.

It's not as reprehensible as the desire to execute homosexuals en masse, but it's reprehensible in its own unique way.

I'll condemn it. But I note that these claims are overstated and in many cases used to perpetrate frauds against western christian groups. For example, in Jim Rodger's book Advernture Capitalist, he tells a story of how groups in the Sudan were claiming that christians were being persecuted and being executed and sold into salvery. When the camera crews came through the whole town had sent their kids to pose as christain "orphan slaves". Of course, the Western Christian groups were outraged--obviously we can't have christians being the slaves of muslims so they organized and bought the release of the "orphan slaves". That particular group defrauded several Swiss Christain orgainzations out of several millions before they realized that it was a fraud.

I guess the moral of the story is that you need to read between the lines sometimes.

  6. Pretty good scam.

Incidentally, 8:46 a.m. didn't actually appear until after 10:00 a.m. Something has been buggy with the comments lately (in addition to the daily inundations of Mandarin and Cyrillic spam).

  7. "My point here, however, was about Rick Warren,"

Your point seems to be that you want Christians to help stop the executions. Why don't you also call on Muslims, Buddhas and other religious leaders for help? You oppose Christians in most everything except wanting them to help.

By the way, there is nothing in the Bible that instructs anyone to execute homosexuals.

    Super ID -

It appears you are saying that Christian persecution should be ignored because you want people to think they are exaggerated. That is an unfortunate viewpoint.

Not my point, no, but that would be nice.

Why don't you also call on Muslims, Buddhas and other religious leaders for help?

If they're reading, then they should help. Everybody should. And it never should have happened in the first place.

Anyway I was neither "calling on" nor expecting anything from Rick Warren. By the way, do you know who Rick Warren is, or his history with homosexuals?

You oppose Christians in most everything except wanting them to help.

Pure nonsense. Who are you and what are you basing this on?

By the way, there is nothing in the Bible that instructs anyone to execute homosexuals.

What do you make of Leviticus 20:13 then?

  9. I don't think the "Buddhas" have must sway with Rick Warren's pal, Martin Ssempa.

  10. Stephen Lewis is a Canuckian legend, whose daughter-in-law is Naomi Klein.

"the preacher seemed gripped by paranoia ..."

    That's putting it mildly.

"What do you make of Leviticus 20:13 then?"

From a Christian view it does not instruct executing homosexuals.

  12. You better not express a preference for "strict constructionist" judges, then.

  13. Do strict constructionist use the entire law or only parts to suit their purpose?

I was referring to the entire Bible (Old and New), not just one verse.

  14. Do strict constructionist use the entire law or only parts to suit their purpose?

    It depends.

    In this case:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

I think they'd need to abandon their commitment to "strict constructionist" rules pretty quick in order to conclude that the verse was not commanding the execution of homosexuals.

It's all good. Because even if the Agape doesn't prevent you from hating on the gays, your worst impulses will be tempered by the cognitive dissonance.

No, my point is when claims of Christian persecution are accompanied with pleas for montary help you should look closley at those claims of persecution.

  18. The bible's requirement that homosexuals need to be killed is very clear:

Not from Christian doctrine or view point, never has been and never will be.
