When, Lord, oh when?

Are Republicans going to drop this ridiculous "Family Values" crap. Will this latest serially lying GOP hypocrite finally turn the trick?

On Fathers' Day, of all things. And the Christian Bible study, natch.

  2. The question is whether Vote for the Moral Jesus People demographic is ever going to realize how utterly and cynically they've been played by these hucksters and hypocrites over the past 30 years.

It puts me in mind of a passage from Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon, in which is discussed the WWII Japanese military's resistance to admitting that their codes have been broken. To paraphrase Stephenson, mutatis mutandis, in terms relevant to the current context:

I suspect that the "family values" conservative voter base will never learn how cynical and hypocritical that segment of their party's leadership is. Never. Why? Because they are incapable of comprehending what has happened to them. I speculate that the GOP leadership could hold a press conference tomorrow and broadcast a speech announcing that the entire religious-morality routine has been a put-up job from start to finish, and nothing would happen. The base will never believe how totally they have been fucked, because when you get fucked that badly, it's your own goddamn fucking fault and it makes you look like a fucking shithead.
