Submerging the bar

A McCain flack is already complaining about Thursday's debate, compelling proof that McCain adviser Senator Phil Gramm was at least partially correct about his "nation of whiners."

  1. Meh ... the Obama campaign was touting Sarah Palin the better debater over Biden (who has about 20 more years of political experience than her) ... so everyone is lowering the bar significantly.

  2. They are joking though, whereas the McCainiacs are serious.

"Biden's going in here to debate a leviathan of forensics, who has debated five times and she's undefeated."

    Consider "leviathan of forensics" swiped.

  3. Are they joking? Or, if Palin does wipe the floor with Biden, will the Obama campaign merely say ... we were expecting this all along?

  4. Now I can't tell whether you're serious.

  5. Well, granted it's a big "if" ... but hell, last week I thought my Metropolitans were a lock for the playoffs ... so, you never know.

It's this thing called "spin", and politicians of every stripe use it. You grease the skids beforehand, and if/when you need them afterwards ... viola!, you have your ready-made excuse handy.

Honestly, I think the McCain/Palin ticket is about to spectacularly flame out over the next couple of weeks. I just don't think Obama/Biden are going to bring the "Change we can all believe in." to make me feel that it's all for the better.

  6. I hear ya. But it's entertaining as hell in the meantime. Sorry about the Mets also. (Not really.)

  7. You're pulling for the Brewers, are ya? You bastard!

Bah, it was just as well. We screwed the pooch two years in a row. Congrats to the Brew Crew for persevering, and winning when it mattered most.
