Former governor bails on Prosser campaign

Not a great day for the People's Republicans of Fitzwalkerstan:
Former Wisconsin governor Patrick Lucey (D) resigned today as co-chair of Justice David Prosser's Supreme Court campaign, citing "lack of civility" in campaign from Prosser. Lucey says he now endorses challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.
Via WISN's Brendan Conway.

Lucey, 93, said Prosser has revealed what he called "a disturbing distemper and lack of civility." I hope he doesn't have distemper.

My memory could be playing tricks on me, and I'm not presently in a position to check, but as I recall it was Governor Lucey who appointed Chief Justice Abrahamson to the court. If so, that might explain in at least some small measure his apparent ire.

You are indeed correct, counselor (and I bet there's much truth to your explanation as well).

Pat was embarrassed off his support of Prosser. If he lives in Madison, he would not be able to avoid the explosion of support for Kloppenburg – signs proliferate up and down these neighborhoods, many hand painted or downloaded. I have one of the latter and found a Kloppenburg bumper sticker on my stoop on the way out the door this morning, which was peeled and applied without breaking stride. This one is all over (except for the actual voting). Somebody tell the Judge.
