I can't help but reflect on the wise words to be found in... old episodes of Yes, Minister.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Indeed – it could be argued that the Sermon on the Mount, had it been a government report, would almost certainly not have been published. A most irresponsible document. All that stuff about the meek inheriting the earth could do irreparable damage to the defence budget.

If Jefferson took out the crazy supernatural parts and left the generic Jesus helps-others parts, and the conservatives started with the Jefferson Bible, I wonder what would be left after they removed all that personal socialism.
